1. SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE
A-General statements of fact
Doğa olayları, bilimsel bulgular, sınıflandırmalar, genellemeler ve atasözleri-deyimler gibi her zaman geçerliliği olan olay ve durumları ifade etmek için kullanılır.
The earth revolves around the sun. Dünya güneşin etrafında döner.
An apple a day keeps the doctor away. Günde bir elma doktoru uzak tutar.
The sun rises in the east. Güneş doğudan doğar.
It rains a lot in winter. Kışın yağmur çok yağar.
Everybody knows her. Onu herkes tanır.
The lions in the forest always hunt by running.
B-Habitual daily activities
Her zaman alışkanlık haline getirilmiş eylemler ve beceriler ile her gün, her hafta, her ay, her yıl gibi zamanlarda tekrar eden olayları ifade etmek için kullanılır.

D- Future schedules/timetables
Belirli bir çizelge ya da plana (örneğin, ders programları; uçak, gemi, tren, otobüs tarifeleri; sinema, tiyatro gibi etkinliklerin başlama ve bitiş saatleri; gezi programları)uygun olarak, "SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE" gelecek zamanda meydana gelecek bir olayı anlatmak için de kullanılır.
The bus leaves at 8:00 a.m. tomorrow.
Our school begins next Monday.
The play starts at 9:00 tonight.
The film begins at 10:00 pm and it is too late for us.
The professor is in his office between 2:00 and 3:00 pm; you should visit him on that period.

E- A future situation (In adverbial clauses of time)
After, before, by the time, when, until / till, as soon as, ojice, immediately, as long as gibi bağlaçlarla kurulmuş zaman cümleciklerde gelecek zaman bildirmek için bu zaman kullanılır.

We leave for Ankara tomorrow. Yarın Ankara'ya gidiyoruz.
My father arrives in Ankara next week. Babam gelecek hafta Ankara'ya varacak.
Final exams begin next week. Final sınavları haftaya başlayacak.
She comes after she finishes her work.
The ship arrives at America by the time your job is ready.

  Gerçekte geçmiş zamanda olmuş bir eylem ya da durum gazete başlıklarında bu tense ile ifade edilir.
                   George Bush beats his rival in Florida.
             The president condems the war in his speech.

Aynı şekilde, aslında geçmiş zamanda anlatılmış bir olay ya da hikaye bu tense ile anlatılabilir.

G- Criticism or appraisal of artistic work        
Bu tense, bir sanat eseri üzerinde yapılan olumlu ya da olumsuz eleştirilerde kullanılır.

Goethe creates too melancholic characters in his works.
NOT:  Normalde "yüklem + -ing" yapısı ile kullanılmayan bazı yüklemlerle birlikte kullanılır.

Edilgen yapıda kullanıldığında am, is, are + V3 şeklinde kullanılır:

2. PRESENT CONTINUOUS TENSE
A- An activity in progress right now
Konuşma enasında devam eden olayları anlatmak için kullanır.
I am washing the dishes, so do it yourself.
My father is watching the news, he doesn’t look at you.
B- A general activity that takes place over a period of time.
Konuşmanın geçtiği anda o eylemi yapmıyor olmasak bile o sıralarda yapmakta olduğumuz eylemleri bu tense ile anlatabiliriz. Genellikle şu zaman zarfları kullanılır: nowadays, these days, this term, this quarter, this semester, this year, this month...etc.
I am studying for the finals this week.
She is preparing the documents for the visa this semester.
She is doing master this year.
C- Future arrangements (plans)
Önceden planladığımız ve kesin olarak yapmayı düşündüğümüz işleri anlatırken de Present Continuous Tense kullanırız.
We are playing football this week..
We are introducing the new project next week.
He is taking two main projects this year.
America is not signing the Kyoto Protocol this year.

D- An attitude of annoyance
Şikayet ya da kızgınlık belirtmek için bu tense constantly, always, continually, perpetually, forever gibi zarflar ile birlikte kullanılır
                Why are you always doing this to me?
                He is continually making the same mistake again and again!

E- Decisiveness
Kararlılık ifadelerinde kullanılır.
                You are doing your homework and I am not letting you go!

3. SIMPLE PAST TENSE
A- An action which began and ended at a particular time in the past
Geçmişte belli bir zamanda olmuş bitmiş (tamamlanmış) eylemleri ifade etmek için kullanılır.
He was only a few feet away and I recognized him.
She suddenly jumped out of the window and I just watched her fall.
B- An activity that took place regularly in the past
Geçmişte düzenli aralıklarla olmuş eylemleri anlatmak için de kullanılır. Bu bakımdan "USED TO" gibi kullanılır ama bu kullanım nadirdir.
I worked for six hours everyday in Montenegro.
We came together every week to discuss on the topic. 
C- In reported speech and wish clauses
Dolaylı anlatım ve dilek yapılarında, eylem geniş zaman olsa da past tense ile ifade edilir.
She says she visited her mother every week.
I wish I were rich.

4. PAST PROGRESSIVE TENSE
A -An activity that was in progress at a particular time in the past
Geçmişte belli bir anda devam etmekte olan olayları anlatmak için kullanılır.

She was walking on the road at that time.
I did not hear you, I was listening to music.
She was riding home and saw the accident.

B- An event or activity that was planned but not fulfilled in the past (also with was / were going to)
Geçmişte planlanmış ama yapılamamış eylemleri anlatmak için kullanılır.
I was going to call you but I didn’t have time.
             We were going to leave for abroad but our car was broken.

C- In wish clauses and conditional sentences
Koşullu cümlelerde ve dilek kiplerinde kullanılır:

I was having fun with my family right now if I went home.
I wish I was working in a good restaurant there.

D- describing a scene or place in a story
Bir hikayede bir sahne veya durumu tasvir ederken kullanılır:

People were running around, children were crying and he was crying for mercy.

E- two events happening at the same time.
Aynı anda sürmekte olan iki paralel eylemi anlatırken kullanılır.

She was talking to me and I wasn’t listening to her.

A- An activity or action that happened at an unspecific time before now
İçinde bulunduğumuz anın öncesinde olmuş ancak zamanı tam olarak bilinmeyen eylemleri ifade eder. Bu zamanda önemli olan eylemin zamanı değil sonucudur.

I have seen most of the places in this album.
I have read an article about this topic and it was against your idea.
B- An action that happened repeatedly before now
Bu kullanımda olayın tekrar tekrar yapıldığını belirtir, "today, this morning, this week, this month" gibi zaman zarfları
kullanılır.
                İ have broken the third glass this morning.
                I have gone there only once this year.

C- An action that began in the past and continues up to the present (often used with for and since)

Süreç (eylem belli bir süreç içinde gerçekleşir) Kısaca bu tense belli bir noktada başlamış ve halen devam eden eylemleri ifade eder.

I have studied American History for two weeks.
How long have you been here?

D- An action that recently occurred
Kısa bir süre önce tamamlanmış eylemleri ifade etmek için kullanılır.

She has just finished her exam and now the teacher took her paper.

E- An action to be completed in the future, in adverbial clauses
    Zarf cümleciklerinde gelecekte tamamlanmış olacağı vurgulanan eylemleri ifade eder.

Present Perfect Tense'den farklı olarak bu zaman, yapılan eylemin sürekliliğini de ön plana çıkarır.

                He has been getting ready for revenge since his father’s death.
                She has been speaking with me for 12 hours.


B-A general action lately in progress
Bu kullanımda da eylemin süreklilik göstermesi önemlidir. Recently, lately, all day, all week, all year...vb.
zaman zarfları kullanılır:

America has been looking for ways to negotiate with the Middle Eastern countries since the Persian War.
NATO has been trying to solve the problems in Arabian countries in North Africa recently.

7. PAST PERFECT TENSE

A-An action that occurred before another activity in the past
Geçmişte yapılan iki eylemden, önce olanı ya da geçmişte belli bir noktadan önce gerçekleşen eylemleri ifade etmek için kullanılır.

I had never seen such a boring film until I watched it in Ankara.
I had washed my hands before I ate it.
The government had tried to convince the country before it declared war against it.

 B-An action that was expected to occur in the past
Geçmişte belli bir noktadan önce olmuş ancak etkileri o noktada devam eden eylemleri ifade ederken kullanılır.

                By the time the government heard the news of the coming war, they had already evacuated the towns near the borders.

               
C- in reported speech and wish clauses
Dolaylı anlatım ve dilek cümlelerinde geçmiş zamanda kullanılır:

                I wish I had told him earlier.
                He reported that the accident had happened the night before.

A- An activity that was in progress before another activity in the past.
Geçmişte belli bir zamandan ya da eylemden önce gerçekleşen olayın sürekliliğini vurgulamak için kullanılır.

Greece had been borrowing money from European countries just before its economy crashed.

B- In reported speech
Dolaylı anlatımda past progressive ve present perfect progressive yerine "Past Perfect Progressive"
kullanılır.

He said that he had been working there for years.
They warned me that the spies had been searching information about me for two weeks.

9. FUTURE (Be Going To)

A- Expressing a prediction
Gelecekte meydana gelme olasılığı bulunan bir olaydan ya da geleceğe yönelik bir tahminden söz ediliyorsa "BE GOING TO" kullanılır. Bu yönüyle "will" in kullanımına benzer. Ancak çok yakın gelecekte olma olasılığı yüksek olan tahminlerde "BE GOING TO" kullanılır.
           
According to the weather forecast, it is going to be rainy tomorrow.
The commission agrees that the party is going to win the next election.

B- Expressing a future plan or intent
Önceden tasarlanmış eylemleri ifade ederken kullanılır. Bu kullanımıyla "be going to" ve "Present Continuous Tense" birbinin yerine kullanılabilir.

I am going to stay here tonight.
I am going to apply universities for master when I graduate from university.

10. SIMPLE FUTURE (WILL)

A-Expressing a prediction
Geleceğe yönelik bir tahminden söz ediliyorsa "will" kullanılabilir.

According to the weather forecast, the southern parts of Turkey will be snowy tomorrow.
I guess he will be very excited with the news of their marriage.

B- (with I / we) to express a spontaneous decision:
Ani alınan bir karan anlatırken kullanılabilir.

I will pay for the books by credit card.
She has decided that she will go by plane.

C- Expressing willingness / unwillingness or making a decision at the time of speaking:
Konuşma anında yapmaya o an karar verdiğimiz eylemleri anlatırken kullanılır.

I need your help! Don’t worry, I will close the store and come right now.
Oh I have run out of money. Ok. I will pay for you.

D-to express willingness:
Bir teklifte bulunurken kullanılır.
               
                Do your job, I will wash the dishes.

E- expressions of hope, wish, doubt or prediction
Umut, şüphe, dilek veya tahmin ifadelerinde kullanılır.

I doubt she will manage it before long.
I’m afraid she will lose her temper when she sees this mess.
